Max Coates British Touring Car Driver who PLASgran sponsor in combination with one of our customers Primex Plastics Limited is swapping his race suit and helmet for a cap and gown after graduating with a first class honours degree from Leeds Beckett University.
Max Coates, 22, from North Yorkshire, has spent the last three years studying BA (Hons) Sport Marketing at Leeds Beckett as well as competing in the Renault UK Clio Cup series.
Speaking about his studies, Max commented: “I’m thrilled to be graduating from my course at Leeds Beckett and all the more happy because I’ve come out with a first class honours degree! It’s been three years of hard work, but now it’s paid off and I’m looking forward to the next challenge in my career.
“The Sport Marketing course has been invaluable in terms of my racing career, as I’ve been able to put the degree into practice. Combining my studies with the racing has been tough at times, however I’m passionate about racing cars and my academic studies and this has helped me focus on achieving success in both fields.”
Kacy Mackreth, Senior Lecturer in Sport Marketing at Leeds Beckett, added: “I knew Max was going to be a stand-out student even before he came to study at Leeds Beckett; he is the only student who requested to sit in on a lecture prior to accepting his place to make sure our course was right for him! He did not disappoint and it has been a pleasure to see his successes on and off the track.
“Max juggled his racing, academic and internship commitments in stride whilst also being a valued course ambassador. He has shown resilience in trying to put what he was learning into practice by tirelessly trying to secure sponsorship to fund his racing. His recent successes on the track are mirrored to his academic achievements; Max is graduating with a first class honours in Sport Marketing and has been awarded the Carnegie School of Sport prize for course contribution. He will be one to watch, not only on future podiums, but likely working at a high-level global sport marketing agency in the future!”
Max recently enjoyed success on the race track as he claimed his maiden win in the Renault UK Clio Cup with victory in front of a home crowd at the Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire to cap what he described as a ‘fairy tale’ weekend.
Both rounds nine and 10 of the 18-race season were held over the course of the weekend of Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 June and Max enjoyed a first and second placed finish for his Ciceley Motorsport team.
The Renault UK Clio Cup resumes at the Snetterton circuit in Norfolk on Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 July with Max in fourth position in the standings.
Coverage of the action will be shown live on ITV4 at 16:10*.
