In combination with one of our customers Primex Plastics Limited, PLASgran sponsor Max Coates British Touring Car Driver. After the summer break North Yorkshire’s Max Coates made a successful return to the Renault UK Clio Cup at Snetterton.
After a maiden win at his home round at Croft Coates was on a high and looking to cement his position as a title contender. Qualifying was held in mixed conditions at the Norfolk venue. Rain hit as the cars took to the track but the track got faster and faster after the rain stopped. The Ciceley Motorsport driver took 7th and 3rd positions on the grid for the two races respectively.
By the end of the first lap of the first race the sponsored car had moved through to 3rd place which became 2nd by the end of the second lap. Coates then began to catch the leader but some small errors cost him the chance to claim victory.
Afterwards Coates said “I made a pretty poor getaway but made up for it at turn one. Once I got through to second I just got my head down and chased the leader down. It was a hard race for me personally after finding out that my Grandad had passed away yesterday, I’d like to dedicate this podium finish to him!”
The second race saw Coates fall back to fourth early on but he was involved in the battle for the race lead. He made a move to take 3rd however was forced wide three corners later falling back into 5th place, where he finished.
The results have moved the recent Leeds Beckett University Sports Marketing graduate to 3rd in the standings and further clear at the front of the graduate cup class for new drivers under the age of 23. The next round of the championship will take place at Rockingham on the 27th and 28th August.
