Ikea use recycled PET-bottles for new kitchen range

Ikea Use Recycled PET Bottles

Ikea recently announced their new sustainable kitchen, Kungsbacka, which will be made from recycled plastic PET bottles and reclaimed wood.

The recycled items will be used to make the kitchen fronts and replace the current virgin oil-based plastic. By using innovative technology Ikea is able to keep the design, price and most importantly the quality the same.

Anna Granath, Ikea’s Product Developer, said: “What we do at Ikea has a big impact on the environment due to the large quantities we produce so by using recycled materials, we can create products which are more environmentally-friendly and sustainable.”

To be able to create the product, Ikea uses around 25 half-litre PET bottles to make a plastic foil, this then coats the reclaimed wood for the kitchen fronts.

The famous Swedish store is committed to incorporate various recycled materials and use them within their new products.

Now recycling is being utilised in innovative ways and with big brands using it as an alternative, could discarded items now be the chosen materials for future products.
