Engineering / Polymer Apprenticeship

We are looking to offer apprenticeships in Engineering and Polymer (Mechatronics Maintenance Technician), to start in the Apprentice Academy based in Oakham and be based at our Plasgran facility in Wimblington, Cambridgeshire.

The apprenticeship will follow a nationally recognised qualification standard.  Subject to satisfactory completion of all elements of the programme, this will lead to an Advanced Apprenticeship. There will also be an opportunity to progress to a higher education qualification which could potentially lead to a degree.

We are seeking enthusiastic individuals to undertake the apprenticeship scheme to learn the skills and competencies associated with engineering and polymer technologies.

Assessment centre days

Successful applicants will attend a skills assessment centre on either 18th or 25th March 2020.

Personal qualities

The successful applicant will demonstrate an appreciation and genuine interest in problem solving and engineering.

Desired qualifications

All candidates will need to have a minimum of five GCSE qualifications or equivalent grade C/4 or above including Maths, English and a Science related subject.

Quality Manager

The Opportunity

You will be responsible for the overall day to day operation of the laboratory and quality function. You will work closely with the departmental heads in order to maximize the operational efficiency of the lab, while maintaining high levels of safety, quality and service. You will ensure that the laboratory operation has both the capability and capacity to deliver the services required to support the testing function whilst driving operational excellence.

The Person

This ideal person will be degree educated with a chemistry discipline and with over 5 years Laboratory experience. You will have a good background understanding of chemistry plus experience with complex mixtures. You need to be self-motivated and able to lead by example, displaying excellent written and oral communication skills at all levels. Knowledge of the operation of 9001:2015 accredited laboratory and a full UK driving license essential.

Job Description

  • Oversee the day to day running of the quality function team.
  • Provide leadership and Direction in the areas of process and product improvement.
  • Working closely with the production and sales departments on all products.
  • Ensure the quality control and quality management systems are maintained to assure the quality of laboratory services provided and to identify any non-conformities in quality as they occur. Implementing corrective actions.
  • Liaising with senior management regarding workload, targets and performance.
  • Offering support and guidance to other employees.
  • Improvise new ideas to develop to contribute to the department’s success.
  • Ensure that the environmental conditions of the laboratory are appropriate for the testing performed and provide a safe environment meeting regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure operational adherence to applicable policies, standard operating procedures and methods by all operational staff.
  • Establish where necessary and maintain existing operational standards for cost control, quality, safety and on-time delivery.
  • Ensure all equipment/instrumentations are properly maintained and serviced complying with regulatory standards where applicable and/or to ensure proper performance and function.
  • Daily rounds of the laboratory to judge the effectiveness of operation, utilization of staff and creating/influencing an environment in which staff perform, grow, contribute and enjoy their work.
  • Identify laboratory training needs and look at ways to develop the required skills to align with the resource plans as well as maintaining the training requirements for all lab technicians and analysts.

Electrical Technician

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity for an experienced Electrical Technician to join a growing UK leading Plastic Recycling Company, who are part of a Global Manufacturing Group. You would be working as part of a team that carries out all supporting electrical and mechanical works that enable the completion of maintenance and production work.

The Person

The position would suit a person who has a proven experienced background in industrial electrical maintenance including PPM. They would have Strong interpersonal and decision-making skills and a positive, flexible approach to their workload. They would be able to demonstrate their electrical skills and share knowledge with colleagues. They would also need to demonstrate their ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels within the business from Directors to production operatives.

Job Description

  • To aid in the design and implementation of a preventative maintenance program.
  • To identify and rectify in a timely manner, electrical, electronic and control system faults that lead to non-production in any area of the plant.
  • The scope of responsibility for electrical systems extends to the whole plant and offices and all equipment within the boundaries of the premises.
  • To ensure on a daily basis that the electrical systems of the plant are in a safe and robust state for production.
  • To keep records of inspections and servicing and order components and parts where appropriate.
  • To maintain, service and clean electrical installation items within the manufacturer’s recommendations.
  • Maintain the shells of all equipment.
  • Maintain records on servicing.
  • Other related duties that the Management deem necessary, including introduction of new technology.
  • Report and document each production run and provide electricity usage analysis.
  • To make recommendations on improvements to any system in the plant in order to improve safety and efficiency.
  • Collate data and report to the Supervisor of job progress
  • Out of hours completion of ad hoc permits to work for maintenance requirements
  • Reporting stock levels when low and/or require replenishment
  • Undertake and complete special projects given by management
  • Other responsibilities as determined by management
  • On call – out of hours call out on a rotational basis

Granulation Operative

Plasgran are always keen to hear from experienced granulator operators who have worked in the plastic recycling industry. The ideal candidate will have experience in recognising different plastic types, understanding and engaging in quality control, excellent housekeeping skills, knowledge of conveying systems, shredding and granulating machinery plus a positive attitude to hard work and pushing working limits of their equipment to safely and effectively increase production levels.

Compounding Line Operative

Plasgran are always on the look out for experienced compounder operators who have worked on extrusion lines forming plastics to specific grades in all polymer types, be that as a recycled pellet or a finished product. The ideal candidate will have relevant experience and knowledge in the operation of compounding lines, recognise and work to specific quality requirements, understand what and how to test for material characteristics plus have the desire to continuously improve the quality in all material types
