Happy New Year and welcome back to work for those of you in the office this week. 2015 was a fantastic year for Plasgran, with many milestone moments. In today’s post, we highlight some of the most memorable.
Appointment of new MD
Towards the end of the year, we announced the appointment of Mark Roberts as Plasgran’s new Managing Director. Mark brings with him almost 20 years of experience in the plastics industry, plus a wealth of technical and commercial expertise in developing compounded polymers for demanding, technical applications. As a growing, successful company, we are well-poised to take our business to the next level in 2016.
It is crucial for us, as plastics recycling specialists, to keep our facility optimised, which allows us to provide the best quality service and products for our customers. At the start of 2015, we had a new Nordson XALOY Water Ring Pelletising System installed to complement our compounding lines. The system ensures consistent and uniform pellets at a quicker rate, whilst reducing power consumption.
Additionally, a brand new Presona LP40 EH1 baler was installed. The fully automated machine can produce up to 10 tonnes of baled plastic per hour, giving Plasgran additional capacity to maintain growing customer demands.
British Plastics Federation (BPF)
Plasgran became a member of the British Plastics Federation (BPF), the UK’s leading plastic trade association. With the recognised seal of industry approval, we aim to instil greater confidence in our customers and suppliers.
In collaboration with BPF, we pledged to become their Operation Clean Sweep Partner, where we team up to prevent plastic pellet loss into the environment. We also signed up for their SIMPL (Safety in Manufacturing Plastics) initiative to improve health and safety standards in the plastics sector.
New sales channels
In 2015, Plasgran added new platforms for selling our plastic regrinds and compounds. A new partnership was also formed with Plastikcity, where buyers and sellers of plastic are able to approach an exclusive few for accessing materials.
We also established the Plasgran store on eBay, where consumers can purchase high-grade recycled plastics, plastic recycling equipment and machinery, as well as our surplus items.
Useful consumer guides
In support of the UK government’s efforts to improve the country’s plastic packaging recycling rate, we created the Plasgran infographic guide to the different grades of plastic that can be repurposed. The guide can be downloaded and saved to computers and mobile devices for easy reference.
Furthermore, we published on our blog an informative article detailing how plastic is recycled. The post outlines the process, from sorting plastic items once they arrive at a recycling facility, to resizing, separation and, finally, compounding.
Exhibitions in 2015
Plasgran had several opportunities to showcase our standards and capabilities in plastic recycling at various industry exhibitions. We exhibited at the Plastics Recycling Expo on the 16th and 17th of June, and the Resource & Waste Management (RWM) Show at the NEC, Birmingham from the 15th to the 17th of September.
All of us at Plasgran look forward to another year of success, new initiatives and memorable moments.
